Henkel and Grossé was founded in the famous goldsmith town of Pforzheim in Germany in the early 20th century by Heinrich Henkel and Florentin Grossé. The company quickly became known for itshigh quality costume jewellery and soon had contracts with Harrods and Saks in New York; designers, including Elsa Schiaparelli and Jeanne Lanvin, worked with the company in Paris and Hollywood stars such as Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo wore their jewellery. After the Second World War the firm became known as Grossé. Their jewels were stocked in Christian Dior's boutique in the 1950s.

In 1955 Christian Dior granted Grossé the exclusive license to manufacture his jewellery designs and the company manufactured their own jewellery together with jewellery for Dior. The jewellery was very high quality, made from gold plated and rhodium plated metal. Grossé held the license to manufacture Dior jewellery for 50 years, until 2005, when the company was taken over by Dior. Today, Grossé jewellery is extremely sought after.
